How to provide a short-term home for adult ladybugs.
1
In a fish bowl or large jar, place a layer of dirt and a small plant.
2
Use a cover of light cloth, nylon stocking, or small mesh to tightly cover the top.
3
Keep it lightly watered for the plant and provide a piece of moist sponge or wet cotton ball for the ladybugs.
4
Gather ladybugs in a garden or from flowers where insecticides have not been used. Gather many aphids also.
5
Provide aphids for the ladybugs to eat. Ladybugs have a big appetite (unless it's too cold) and will eat lots of aphids. You can supplement this diet by soaking and cutting in half raisins or providing cut grapes. Ladybugs can live a few days on a grape or raisin juice diet but need protein for longer survival.
6
Let them go in the Fall so they can migrate and prepare for winter.
