The Bureau of Meteorology gives us a lot of really good information to help us prepare for storms and things that may come through.

Home maintenance is a really important part of trying to prevent any damage that can occur from storms and floods. So things like keeping your gutters clear can be really important. Trimming overhanging branches over your home can prevent them falling down and smashing tiles and skylights.

If you know that a storm is approaching and there is gonna be heavy wind, tying down outdoor furniture or keeping things away from outside is really a good one to do as well.

It's a good idea to have an emergency plan in the event you have to evacuate your home. People can go to www.stormsafe.com.au on further information on how to prevent storm damage in your home and also how you can prepare a plan.

It's a really good idea indeed to have an emergency kit and the sort of items you need to put in there are: a portable radio, a torch and some spare batteries for both of those. And think about things you need to take with you as well like your medications, any supplies for your children, and ensure you look after your pets and that you have a plan for them as well.

We can't stop the weather coming, but what you can do is you can prevent the impact that it's gonna have on your home and your lifestyle. So the best thing you can do is try to maintain your home, and make sure you have a plan in place. In case an emergency occurs."
