How to Avoid Laptop Pain

Using a laptop all the time can be convenient but it can also be a source of pain. Since we can move a laptop around the house really easily, we often don't think about where we place it provided we can get on it and use it with ease. If you have pains, however, you might want to think about just how you use your laptop. Here are some suggestions.

Place the screen a the right level. Okay, we all know a slouch in the couch with a laptop is very inviting. But it isn't good for your posture. If you feel tension, tiredness and neck and upper back pain after using your laptop, check the height of your screen. Such pain can be caused by having the screen too low in relation to the height of your eyes. The answer is to always place the laptop screen so that the upper third of the screen is at the same height as your eyes. Very important!

Do not rely on the keyboard and touchpad for long periods of work. The convenience of inbuilt keyboards and touchpads is undeniable but it can also work against you if you are spending a lot of time on the laptop. If your hands and wrists feel sore, swollen or painful after laptop usage, it may be because the keyboard and touchpad are making you contract the muscles in your wrist region so that they tighten. The answer is to use an independent keyboard and mouse when working on a laptop for more than an hour. Many wireless versions are now available.

Transport the laptop with as much care for your body as for the laptop itself. Laptops weigh a bit, especially when added to books, papers and other items in your bag. You can feel whole back pain and shoulder pain from carrying a laptop for a long time. It is therefore very important to purchase a proper laptop backpack that takes your back into consideration as much as the padding for the laptop. Make sure that the straps are adjustable to account for different weights in the bag.
