A good old fashioned barbecue is always popular. A very important factor when having a barbecue is to not be impatient. Although many people will use only wood, it is recommended that a novice use charcoal briquettes.
1
If you have a ready built barbecue, skip this point. If not, prepare a barbecue pit by making a slight hollow in the ground, and then placing bricks or rocks around the perimeter of the hollow.
2
The brick perimeter must not be too large for your barbecue grid, as you want the grid to rest on at least the two far corners and the handle.
3
The grid must be between 8 and 10 inches from the base of the hollow.
4
Fill a flat sardine can with dry soil.
5
Pour paraffin over the sand in the tin.
6
Put the tin in the center of the hollow.
7
Light it with a match.
8
Pack briquettes around it, and over it. Leave space for ventilation.
9
After about 10 to 15 minutes, pack more briquettes on the now burning pile of briquettes.
10
Leave it alone.
11
In about an hour check it. There should be no visible flames, and the briquettes should have a thin grey layer of dust on them.
