If you and your partner are of a similar size, the one who is physically stronger must be the barrow.

In a situation where the partners are mismatched in size, the smaller person should be the barrow.

The barrow partner sets the pace, not the pusher.

The pusher does not hold the barrows feet at the ankle with their hands, but rather in the crook of the arm, so that the hands are available to hold the barrows knees.
